At UMassFive, we believe that our members are what make us great—after all, each and every one owns a piece of the Credit Union. That's why each Newsletter, we feature a short interview with one of our members.
Member Spotlight 2020 V2
What is your name?
Gail Gray
What is your occupation?
Retired from the University [UMass] after 26.5 years. Now working on my land.
Where do you live?
Belchertown, since January 1973.
Do you have kids?
Yes, a son and a daughter, as well as foster children, and shared my home with many others—young and old—over the years.
Do you have pets?
Presently a dog who answers to Phoebe, but have been a foster home for many dogs and cats, and have over the years had chickens, our own cats and dogs, as well as fish, rodents, amphibians, birds, and who knows what else.

How long have you been a VA / UMassFive College Federal Credit Union member?
I think I became a member when I started working in 1990 at the University.
Have you had an especially good experience with UMassFive?
Of course, but too numerous to mention. Each time I visit is an especially good experience!
What do you like best about UMassFive?
It’s nice that I’m always greeted by name by numerous employees, and how everyone is always eager to accommodate me.
What do you do in your free time?
All of my time is free, but what specifically stands out at this time of year is the great outdoors and the gardens here at home. Over the years, I’ve executed many handcraft projects, [like] planting on my property and caring for it. [I’ve also] been involved in various volunteer positions, [and] homeschooled my children through elementary school. I read books—presently engrossed in Viking sagas, and scorn the television.
What is your favorite food?
Anything that someone else prepares for me.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have three items with you, what would they be?
I can’t answer this question because I would never find myself stranded. There are always others standing by to help me.
