UMassFive has been a proud sponsor of a number of NCMC’s annual events including Springfest, Musical Feast, and the Holiday Choral Festival, and was thrilled to assist the organization in securing financing for their permanent home.
The Northampton Community Music Center (NCMC) was founded in 1986 with a mission to foster the love and pursuit of music in our community through quality education, performances, and activities that are accessible to all. NCMC employs more than 50 professional music teachers for its annual enrollment of nearly 1,000 students, and reaches hundreds more through its outreach programming, workshops, and special events. NCMC’s scholarship program provides financial aid to more than 150 socio-economically disadvantaged students each year, and has never denied aid to a qualifying applicant.
NCMC had leased the historic South Street School building from the City of Northampton since 1997, having invested approximately $1.5 million in property renovations and restoration. In August 2019, thanks to financing from UMassFive’s Commercial Services Division, NCMC was given the opportunity to purchase the building from the City of Northampton, protecting its investment and long-term security.
