Team UMassFive has been honored as the first place recipient of the 2023 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for the State of Massachusetts.

This annual award is given out by the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) to honor a credit union for its social responsibility projects within the community. UMassFive earned this award in recognition of our employees for their outstanding participation and fundraising for the UMass Cancer Walk and Run and Will Bike 4 Food.

UMassFive in the Commuinity

For over 20 years, UMassFive employees have participated in the UMass Cancer Walk, a fundraiser benefitting the UMass Chan Medical School, where we have a branch location. Our employees join together to create excitement and fundraising opportunities each year with creative collaborative events and craft sales. Team UMassFive has raised over $186,600 for the UMass Cancer Center in the lifetime of its participation, including $13,677 in 2023.

In 2020, our fundraising efforts were expanded to include “Will Bike 4 Food,” an event that supports the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Employees cycling and fundraising for this event have raised $17,500 in just four years, including $4,800 in 2023. These donations provided 70,332 meals to neighbors in need.

Our employees earned the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award through their dedication to our mission, and we are incredibly proud of all the work that they do. When it comes to our community involvement at UMassFive, the events that we choose to participate in have a direct and local impact. In addition to the events mentioned above, our employees and members join together to help with many other donation and fundraising efforts such as coat drives, food drives, personal care item drives, support of local farms, and countless hours of volunteer work for various causes. We thank our employees and members alike for their focus on making our community a better place for all of our neighbors, and look forward to continuing this work in 2024.
