Board of Director Nominees’ Brief Biographies
Ruth Yanka – 3 Year Term (Incumbent)
I have volunteered on UMassFive’s Board for ten years, serving in many capacities including Board Member, Vice President, and Secretary. I have a master’s degree in program administration from UMass, and have served on the board of many non-profit organizations in a variety of positions; from member, to treasurer, to president. My work history responsibilities have always included operations, budget, and personnel. I am committed to the Credit Union’s mission of always putting our membership first, making a positive impact on their financial well-being, and practicing and promoting our cooperative values.
Kerri Bohonowicz – 3 Year Term (Incumbent)
I have a deep-rooted connection with UMass as both an alumna and current faculty member teaching accounting. I hold an active CPA license and began my accounting career in 2006 with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston as an auditor in the banking industry. I continued with a specialization in banking with Wolf & Company. After my career in auditing, I worked for Chicopee Savings Bank as the Assistant Vice President of Financial Reporting where I was responsible for preparing all SEC public reports and assisted the CFO with budgeting and forecasting interest rates. Before starting my career at UMass, I was the Chief Financial Officer at a not-for-profit organization for 6 years, where I balanced their mission to provide healthcare to all with a small margin and strengthened their financial position. I joined UMassFive in 2021 and had amazing experiences with their lending team. I strongly recommend UMassFive for home and car loans, and all of your other banking needs! I would be honored to continue serving on the Board and have a direct impact on members by putting their interests first and making a positive difference in their financial lives.
Michael Lareau – 3 Year Term (Incumbent)
As a veteran tech executive and entrepreneur with over 25 years in the IT world, I’ve worn many hats—from building solutions, to guiding banks and credit unions through the maze of regulatory compliance—with a knack for making technology work smarter. I am a proud graduate from Springfield Technical Community College with a degree in IT security, and have been serving on the IT Advisory board since 2014. As a member and passionate advocate for over seven years, I’ve seen UMassFive distinguish itself as a forward-thinking, community-driven credit union. Its exceptional service and personal touch set it apart in a crowded market. Following my initial appointment to the Board on October 29, 2025, I’m eager to contribute to its continued leadership and adaptability while preserving the values that make it thrive.
Tolulope “Tolu” Odunsi-Nelson – Associate Director – 3 Year Term
Professionally an attorney, educator, and advocate with extensive governance experience, I earned my J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and began my career as a trial attorney, gaining expertise in advocacy, compliance, and risk assessment. I began volunteering with UMassFive following my appointment as first-ever Associate Director to the Board this past October 29 because its mission of service, community, and financial empowerment reflects values that have guided my professional and personal life. UMassFive’s commitment to helping members build wealth, improve financial literacy, and access fair financial services is directly connected to my work in civil rights, where I have focused on the structural barriers that limit access to wealth and financial stability. I am inspired by UMassFive’s leadership in supporting local communities, its emphasis on sustainability, and its dedication to member education. Continuing to serve with UMassFive would allow me to contribute my skills and perspective to strengthen an institution that not only provides excellent financial services, but also plays a vital role in advancing inclusion and community well-being.
