What is your name?
Sadie Higgins

What is your occupation?
Farmer! Assistant Manager/Greenhouse Manager at Astarte Farm in Hadley.

Where do you live?
I’m originally from Provincetown and Wellfleet on Cape Cod but I’ve been in Easthampton for a little under a decade.

What is your favorite food?
I couldn’t possibly choose one, so I’ll do top three: pupusas, Indian food, or tacos.

Have you had an especially good experience with UMassFive? Please describe.
Yes! When I purchased my car I got the financing offered by the dealership and was later clued in that I could transfer the loan to UMassFive. I was nervous to take another step in the already intimidating process of purchasing a new car, but I was able to sit down in person with someone at UMassFive who walked me through how it works and they were very patient with answering all of my questions. Years later, I am now considering trading in my car and having UMassFive help me figure out the financing to make me feel more confident.

What do you do in your free time?
I love to see live music, go to music festivals, and DANCE! I also love to read, especially outdoors in a hammock when possible!

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I’ve always had a dream that somehow, somewhere I would be a background dancer at concerts. On the other end of the spectrum, I also think I would make a good carpenter. Life is long, we’ll see!

What is an accomplishment you’re proud of?
This is my fourth year working at Astarte Farm and I’m really proud to have earned a management position. It feels like an accomplishment in itself to have found a place of employment that I genuinely love to spend my days at, and to feel very passionate about what I do. I go home every day feeling like I contributed something good to the world. And even on a small scale, being able to provide food for myself and my community is really special.
