Buzz Points for Charity

Buzz Points Bee

UMassFive has teamed up with our checking account rewards partner, Buzz Points, to allow members to donate their points to local charities, and we’ve raised over $10,000 and counting! These donations benefited UMass Medicine Cancer Walk, the Food Bank of Western MA, Cancer Connection, Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, and the Amherst Survival Center. Here are some of the events we sponsored in conjunction with the donation efforts by our members:

Monte's March
In November, President/CEO Rich Kump & board member Amy Proietti marching with Monte benefiting the Food Bank of Western MA

Our membership donated $1,840 through Buzz Points to the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk this past September. The Cancer Walk is an event that UMassFive participates in annually, and our members and staff are always very generous and engaged. All the funds raised through in-branch donations and Buzz Points went directly toward cancer research at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

This past November, our CEO Rich Kump and Board Member Amy Proietti participated in WRSI’s Monte’s March for the Food Bank of Western MA. Rich joined the march at approximately 7a.m. just over the Calvin Coolidge bridge in Hadley, and marched along Route 9 to our flagship Branch. Members raised $2,245 through Buzz Points towards the Food Bank of Western MA during the few weeks after Monte’s March!

Cancer Connection Campout
In Feb, VP of Marketing Craig Boivin speaking on air about Buzz Points during the Cancer Connection Campout

The Cancer Connection Campout occurred in February. WRSI/The River’s Monte Belmonte camps out in downtown Northampton until he hits his fundraising goal in support of the Cancer Connection (an organization that helps those currently living with cancer, but gets no grants or government funding for their important services). All UMassFive members were invited to help support this cause by using Buzz Points charity redemptions for the Cancer Connection, raising $545 over the two-day event.

In light of recent events concerning the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, UMassFive has also put the word out to members that they can use their Buzz Points to help support the members of their community most in need. Options to redeem your points for donations to the Amherst Survival Center, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, and CISA (Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture) are now featured choices under the charities tab within your Buzz Points account.
